Frequently asked questions

  • What are the main highlights of the tour?

The tour features five days exploring the Galápagos Islands, including an amazing snorkeling experience at the Devil's Crown, a visit to historic Post Office Bay, excellent birdwatching opportunities at Cerro Dragón, and chances to snorkel with local wildlife.
  • What kind of accommodation can I expect on this trip?

You will stay in hotels for 3 nights and aboard the Yolita in twin-share cabins for 3 nights. The cabins on the Yolita are typically set up with twin beds, but can be converted into a double bed if requested in advance.
  • Are meals included in the trip?

Yes, 6 breakfasts, 3 lunches, and 3 dinners are included. Onboard the Yolita, food is plentiful, made from fresh local ingredients, and dining is casual. Vegetarian options are available, and special dietary requirements can be accommodated with advance notice. Coffee, tea, and water are provided free of charge, while other beverages are extra.
  • How large will the group be?

The maximum group size is 16 travelers, with an average group size of 12.
  • Is travel insurance required for this trip?

Yes, travel insurance is compulsory. You will not be permitted to join the group without evidence of travel insurance. It must include medical coverage with a minimum of USD $200,000 for repatriation and emergency rescue. Proof of insurance is also mandatory for entry into Ecuador.
  • Are local flights included in the cost of the trip?

Yes, all local flights to and from the Galápagos are included in the cost of your tour. It is important to provide your passport information at the time of booking to process these tickets.
  • Are international flights included in this trip?

No, international flights are generally not included in the price of your tour, unless specified for certain combo tours.
  • Is there an extra cost for solo travelers?

We believe single travelers should not have to pay more. Our group trips are designed for shared accommodation, and single travelers are paired in twin or multi-share accommodation with someone of the same sex, without a single supplement. If you book the 'My Own Room' option, you will receive a single room for all night stops.
  • How much spending money do I need for my trip?

Spending money requirements vary by traveler. Please note that onboard vessels in the Galápagos, only cash is accepted as credit card machines are not available, and ATM machines on the islands are extremely limited and unreliable. It is important to withdraw enough cash for the duration of your time in the islands, considering personal spending habits for drinks, shopping, and tipping. USD banknotes in denominations smaller than $100 are recommended.
  • What are the modes of transportation on this trip?

Transportation includes planes for internal flights, a motorized yacht (Yolita) for cruising between islands, vans, pangas (small boats for shore excursions), and private buses.
  • Who will be leading the group?

The group will be led by a CEO (Chief Experience Officer)/Naturalist Guide certified by the Galápagos National Park Authority while in the Galápagos Islands, and a local tour operator representative in Quito.
  • Are there any health considerations I should know before traveling?

Inoculations may be required, and it is your responsibility to consult with your travel doctor for up-to-date medical travel information well before departure. Quito is at a high altitude (over 8,000 feet/2,440 meters), and while most people adjust, everyone reacts differently to altitude.
  • What is the policy on pre-existing medical conditions?

Travelers with a pre-existing medical condition are required to complete a short medical questionnaire, which must be signed by their physician, to ensure they have the necessary fitness and mobility for the trip activities.
  • What are the rules regarding drugs and exploitation on the tour?

Illegal drugs will not be tolerated, as they contravene local laws and put the group at risk. The exploitation of prostitutes is also completely contrary to the tour philosophy. Our CEOs have the right to expel any group member found with drugs or using prostitutes.
  • What optional activities are available?

Optional activities include a Quito City Tour & Equator Line, Teleférico in Quito (approx. USD 9 per person), and a full-day Cotopaxi Volcano tour.
  • What are the specific safety considerations for this trip?

In Quito, be aware of pickpockets, especially in the Old Town; use your hotel's safety deposit box for valuables. On the Galápagos, expect 'wet' or 'dry' landings from zodiacs/pangas, which require good mobility to navigate uneven terrain and step over the side of the boat. The yacht does not have an elevator. Snorkeling activities may occur in open water, requiring use of small ladders from pangas. Water-based activities are always at your own risk.
  • What is the climate like in the Galápagos Islands?

The Galápagos Islands are on the Equator, but the climate is tempered by the Humboldt Current, preventing extreme heat. The warmest weather is from December to June, with temperatures ranging from 22-33°C (72-90°F) and water temperatures in the mid-20s°C (mid-70°F). From July to November, temperatures are cooler, ranging from 18-24°C (60s-75°F), and the average water temperature rarely reaches 21°C (70°F).
  • Is laundry available during the trip?

Laundry facilities are available at the start and end hotels for a charge. Full laundry facilities are not available onboard our yachts in the Galápagos. If you wish to do your own laundry, biodegradable soap is suggested.
  • What fees are payable upon arrival to the Galápagos Islands?

The Ecuadorian government levies a Galápagos Islands Park entry fee of USD $200 per person (USD $100 for children under 12), payable in CASH at the airport upon arrival. Additionally, a Transit Control Card costs USD $20 per person, also payable in CASH at the Quito airport before boarding your flight to the Galápagos.
  • Will I have internet access on board the Yolita?

The information provided does not specify internet access onboard. It mentions that ATMs are extremely limited and unreliable in the Galápagos islands and credit card machines are not available on the vessels, suggesting a remote environment.
